«Naki Usagi» is Yuki Maeda‘s debut single, released on the renowned enka record label Teichiku Records on April 24th, 2000. The single contains the title track and its instrumental, as well as a b-side (Honki de Shikatte). It also contains an instrumental of the A-side in a lower key.
Yuki Maeda won a singing contest in 1994, where the grand prize was to have famous enka singer Hiroshi Itsuki as your producer (manager?). Maeda won this competition, but due to studies she only participated on a compilation album of his in 1995.
In April of 2000 she started having semi-regular appearances on the infotainment show «Idol wo Sagase» (hosted by Hello! Project singers Yuko Nakazawa and Michiyo Heike). It was also announced that she would debut as an enka singer within H!P, with Kaori Iida as her manager (mentor?). They met on April 4th, and Maeda released her single three weeks after this.
The next day she performed her debut song in front of Itsuki for the first time. This was at a concert of his, called the Furusato Concert 2000, “Hiroshi Itsuki’s Charity Concert”. Her first televised performance was on the 30th, where she performed the song on the infotainment show Hello! Morning (hosted by Morning Musume).
In May and June, she started a promotional tour of «Naki Usagi», where she went to six cities to promote the single. If you attended one of her events for the release of the single, you’d get a sticker.
It didn’t chart the Oricon music charts, but the song was #5 on the most requested list on the enka radio station.
