«Daite Hold on Me!» is Morning Musume‘s 3rd single.

It was released on September 9th, 1999, containing the title track and it’s instrumental, as well as a B-side (Tatoeba). The single sold 183.500 copies in it’s first week, and a total of 497.120 copies charting for 15 weeks, earning them their first #1 on the Oricon charts. The song was also extremely popular at karaoke, placing #1 for eight weeks on the Oricon Karaoke charts.

The song also won them the the Grand Prix Rookie of the Year Award at the 40th Nihon Record Taishou, and an invite to the famous New Years song show Kouhaku Utagassen (they were guests at this show every year up until 2008).

On the music show Utaban, Kaori Iida was made fun of in a humurous way regarding one of her lines in the music video. She is singing «nee waratte» («Wont you give me a smile?»), making a face the hosts thought was priceless. It kinda made her «famous» at the time, as the comment caught on.

The A-side was used as the ending theme to the movie «Morning Cop» (starring Heike, Yanagihara and Morning Musume from H!P). Very few Morning Musume songs are made into remixes, but this song has four. The one used in the movie, is called «Daite Hold on Me! -Morning Cop Version-«, and the one on the soundtrack is called «Daite Hold on Me! -Sexy Long Version-«. The third remix, Daite Hold on Me! (N.Y. Mix), can be found on their second album, and a trance remix appears on the album Club Hello Trance Remix!

In 2004, a special «Early Single Box» was released, a limited edition box set containing their first eight singles reissued on 12cm CDs. The box set also contained a bonus 12cm karaoke CD with instrumentals of 15 popular songs from their first 3 albums and a 36 page color booklet. In 2005 the singles were released individually,, and first press editions of these singles came with a photo card. All the 12 cm CDs contain an extra track for each single.

Morning Musume Sakuragumi covered this song on their single «Sakura Mankai» in 2003. In 2012, You Kikkawa covered this song on her album «Vocalist?».

The 4th track on the re-release was specially created for their movie, “Morning Cop – Daite Hold On Me!”, which was in theatres from August 18th, 1998.

The movie was completed and released earlier than the song, so what you are listening to is actually in an incomplete state.

Comparing to the single version, you can tell the differences in mixing job as well as the take on the vocal parts and the member who’s in charge of certain parts (i.e. 2nd chorus B-Melody is sung by Yasuda in this version etc.). First time released on CD.
