In the spring of 2000, Tsunku decided to Tsunku decided to shuffle all the artists he managed under Hello! Project. He split all the artist into three groups. There were 16 girls in Hello! Project at the time, not counting Melon Kinen-bi (who hadn’t debuted yet), and Miyoshi Chinatsu and Country Musume (who were managed by other managers than Tsunku).

Tsunku decided to name all the groups after colors, adding the number of girls in the group to the name. Akagumi 4 (meaning "Red Group 4") consists of Yuko Nakazawa and Maki Goto from Morning Musume, Miho Shinoda from Taiyo to Ciscomoon, and Danielle Delaunay from Coconuts Musume; Kiiro 5 (meaning "Yellow 5") consists of Ayaka Kimura from Coconuts Musume, RuRu Honda from Taiyo to Ciscomoon, solo singer Michiyo Heike, and Kei Yasuda and Natsumi Abe from Morning Musume; and Aoiro 7 (meaning "Blue 7") consists of Kaori Iida, Mari Yaguchi and Sayaka Ichii from Morning Musume, Atsuko Inaba and Miwa Kominato from Taiyo to Ciscomoon, and Mika Todd and Lehua Sandbo from Coconuts Musume.

The whole purpose of the shuffling and three groups was to see which group would sell the most singles. Akakgumi4 ended up being the winners with total sales of 507.850 copies ranking at #1 on the Oricon charts, Kiiro 5 took second place with total sales of 525.000 copies ranking at #2 on the Oricon charts, and Aoiro 7 ended up third with 432.000 copies.

The three singles contains the title track and its instrumental, as well as a B-side («Hello no Theme»). The B-side is the opening and ending theme to Hello! Project’s talk show «Hello! Morning». It is originally sung by all the girls, but the version on the singles are sung by only the girls in the group.

For Akagumi4, Maki Goto were scolded by Tsunku for not caring about the lyrics, and was given homework (!) to understand the emotions of the girl in the lyrics. The three other girls had life experience (being 17, 26, 28 at the time), but Goto, at 14 years old, struggled grasping the context and getting her emotions across.

Tsunku’s comments for Akagumi4:

«I’ve held a special event for those who have been very supportive of Michiyo Heike, Morning Musume, Taiyo To Ciscomoon and Coconut Musume. It’s like an event to return favors to the fans. Last summer and this January, we’ve held the collective concerts. I felt very special when I saw the members, who seldom saw each other, gathered together and made efforts to create one great show. My theme for this time is, “How do I express the same energy into the sound?”

Goto who is the youngest, Nakazawa and Shinoda who have the rich experience, and Danielle who is a true American girl. It’s an unexpected combination, meaning that the unit holds a huge potential as well. That’s why the preparation took the most time for this group. I think Goto learned a lot from being in this unit. I wanted them to sing beautiful melody and powerful beats. I wanted the unit to reflect the image of red color. Including lyrics and melodies, I think I got that color image part right. I can call this unit a strong vocal unit for sure.»

For Kiiro5, Michiyo Heike said in an interview a few months after the release:

“I really like the song because it reminds me of springtime. When I was asked to join the unit, I couldn’t believe it. But it was a great opportunity for me to be a part of a major project by Hello! [note: the old name for the fan club, later renamed Hello! Project], as well as learning new choreography, which I never get to do as a solo artist. I also liked the fact that I was able to listen to other member’s vocals in a close proximity, so I’m glad I did it."

Tsunku’s comments for Kiiro 5:

«I’ve held a special event for those who have been very supportive of Michiyo Heike, Morning Musume, Taiyo To Ciscomoon, and Coconut Musume. It’s like an event to return favors to the fans. Last summer and this January, we’ve held the collective concerts. I felt very special when I saw the members who seldom saw each other gathered together and made efforts to create one great show. My theme for this time is, “How do I express the same energy into the sound?”

[Kiiro 5] consists of Michiyo Heike, Abe and Yasuda from Morning Musume, RuRu from Taiyo To Ciscomoon, Ayaka from Coconut Musume. Normally, they are considered as the skilled vocalists in their own groups. By putting them together in one group, more competitive, energetic and stimulating atmosphere was created. This unit is about soul-classic dance music. In another words, I’ve combined the good quality of Morning Musume and Taiyo To Ciscomoon together. When you listen to their song, you’ll feel like having lots of fun. They have really good choreography as well.»

Tsunku’s comments for Aoiro7:

«I’ve held a special event for those who have been very supportive of Michiyo Heike, Morning Musume, Taiyo To Ciscomoon, and Coconut Musume. It’s like an event to return favors to the fans. Last summer and this January, we’ve held the collective concerts. I felt very special when I saw the members who seldom saw each other gathered together and made efforts to create one great show. My theme for this time is, “How do I express the same energy into the sound?”

The unit consists of Yaguchi and Iida from Tanpopo, Ichii who has become hugely successful in PetitMoni, Inaba who can dance very well in Taiyo To Ciscomoon, Kominato who has returned from her illness [he is referring to her absence from Taiyou to Ciscomoon’s 6th single; «illness»], Mika from Coconut Musume, and Lehua who is a brand new member. I am expecting a huge growth from each performer. The reason I named the unit blue was because of its fresh, speedy image. The unit has many girls, but that’s why the energy and speed literally jumps out of them and reach out to people. I hope they can perform digital-punk style well. I’m sure they will do fine though.»

In addition to the singles, they also released a video single:
